Excellent cushioning: Being thicker than the “standard” 3-5 mm mats, it offers more padding under knees, hips, spine when you’re lying down or doing poses on the floor. For example: “mats that are 6mm to 8mm thick provide the ideal cushioning and support … on hardwood floors.”
More comfortable for joint/sensitive users: If you have sensitive knees, wrists, or practice a lot of restorative/yin style yoga (lots of time lying, sitting, gentle holds) then thicker is beneficial.
Better for hard surfaces: On very firm floors (tile, wood) the extra foam means less “hard-floor feel”.
More insulation: The extra thickness can also provide a bit of warmth or softness under you.
